Can a 5 month old have environmental allergies?

My son is almost 5 months old. He started coughing, sneezing %26amp; having a runny nose on Tuesday. By Wednesday he cleared up. Today (Friday) he is coughing %26amp; sneezing again. We originally thought it was a cold, but we are beginning to wonder if it might be environmental allergies. He stayed with my in-laws who live in the country, so I thought maybe pollens could cause these symptoms. Most doctors say that babies do not develop allergies until they are two, but I am not so sure. Please help. If your child has had these symptoms, please let me know what the problem was. Thank-you.Can a 5 month old have environmental allergies? My dr told me the same thing about my 4 month old. She wakes up stuffy and coughs a little sometimes. I've asked the dr about it and he says babies this young are too little to tell because their sinuses aren't fully developed. I have horrible seasonal allergies, so I suspect she does. You might try a nasal spray for his nose if it continues to run. Otherwise I don't think there is much they can do at this point for them. Can a 5 month old have environmental allergies?

Can a 5 month old have environmental allergies? No HE CAN NOT have environmental allergies at this age. With pollen one needs to have two exposures to develop an allergic reaction to it, which means two season - two different season, one each in concurrent years. He's too young.

He could with prolonged exposure be allergic to dust mites, dog dander, cat dander and mold - but that's a big maybe and perhaps.

He's got a cold or he's teething.Can a 5 month old have environmental allergies?
Could it be animal allergies ? My son broke out in a horrible rash when he was 2 months old and again when he was 4 months old from visiting my parents. My pediatrician said it was eczema, but my gut said that wasn't it. I took him to a pediatric allergist and found that he was allergic to my parent's dog. He developed asthma shortly afterward, but seems to be outgrowing it at 2 1/2 years old.Can a 5 month old have environmental allergies?Yes it can be allergies. My son had allergies by 6 months. Nothing severe but it wasn't a cold for sure. He's 2 now and still occasionally gets the watery eyes and sneezing from being out in the country or when we mow the yard. His father has severe allergies.

Benadryl! It works wonders.
