What are the problems/challenges facing modern France?

Hi, I have a exam coming up where we must discuss either the political, economical, social or environmental issues that France may be facing at the moment. I only really know about the recent student demonstration against the extension of the retirement age (but that's where my knowledge of politics/economics stops).

General answers / links to information are fine.

Right now our biggest internal problem is to balance the idea that people are a ressource and need to be nurtured (free education, health service...) instead of losing the "not quite rich enough to pay it all" to uneducated hand to mouth existence, against the population imbalance (baby boomers retiring, lower number of youngsters to put money in the programs) and get the public sector (heavily unionised with plenty of special rights) on the same level as the private one. What are the problems/challenges facing modern France?France has a reluctance to accept change... It has a long history of protesting and ultimately winning it's struggles with the authorities... Change is certainly happening but it is a long slow process..What are the problems/challenges facing modern France?
Well there's all the strikes crippling France right now, there's all the riots that are blocking highways, and there's the government that doesn't understand what's going on, so they send out the military to kill everyone.

...but instead, they just surrender.
