Why is everyone so worried about the environment?

I won't change my wasteful lifestyle because environmental problems wont happen for hundreds of years. Why is everyone so worried about the environment? If everyone thinks the way you do, then it will happen alot sooner. The planet is getting worst and environmental problems are actually alot closer than you expect. The ultimate question is "Do we want our children's and their children to live in a planet that is environmentally unfriendly?"Why is everyone so worried about the environment?
You have a valid point. Why is everyone so worried about the environment? Please say that you're joking. I would hate to think anyone was really so clueless. Why is everyone so worried about the environment?
You are living with blinders on, environmental problems are happening right now! Species are becoming extinct daily, the last of our drinkable water is being polluted, and soils are so contaminated we are all becoming sick.

We all need to reduce or eliminate the use of pollutants, we need to recycle and conserve as much resources as we can, and help to clean up the land from what has already been contaminated!

It is the human selfishness that has put us in this position, we need to try using our energies to invent new ways to improve our environment. There is only one Earth, and we all live on it. It is up to everyone to make things better for all. What are you waiting for?Why is everyone so worried about the environment? We are worried about it because all of us have to live in it. So will our grandkids, etc. What the helll kind of legacy do you want to leave to them??

I get a little angry when:

A new shopping center allows run-off fron their parking lot into a nearby trout stream ,fouls it up and kills the fish.

A government sewerage commission allows the dumping of millions of gallons of raw sewerage into the lakes and streams. It kills fish and it smells bad.

OK you tell me one or two ways in which those actions improve the quality of life.
I can see their worrying about heavy metals, toxic chemicals, carcinogens, and other things that can harm us. But worrying about CO2? Give me a break.

I know humans are responsible for a lot of CO2. WE exhale it with every breath. The meat we eat came from animals that exhaled it. The car I drove to work generated CO2 and some CO. There was no CO2 emitted because the electricity I use was generated at a nuclear power plant. But CO2 makes up such a small percentage of the atmosphere that a 1-2% increase in CO2 really doesn't amount to much.

Now do you really want to reduce CO2 emissions? Figure out a way to eliminate people. But let me warn you the animals will still be out there breathing. They will be emitting CO2.

Let Mother Nature take caare of the environment when it comes to CO2.Why is everyone so worried about the environment?
it has happened, in case if you haven't noticed. watch it, the air you breathe is killing you slowly.
you live far from the action ,but one day the importance will hit home ,when the price of food and beer hits the roof

your very existance depends on the Environment ,the potable water ,the air you breathe ,the food you eat and many peoples jobs are connected ,

do some researching and you will understand that the quality of living ,the level of luxeries ,the condition of the general economy all go hand in hand with the ecology.

all ancient civilizations where great because of their Environment being rich and in good condition, and sucsesfull agriculture was possible.

the moment the soil was gone (maybe because of natural disasters and desertification)their water supplies were in trouble ,so was their food ,trade

emplyment ,and the whole of their economy collapsed, and whole civilizations disapeared from the face of the earth.

there are many examples all around this globe

check out Northern China ,what is happening today

and in the past ,Babylon .Afghanistan ,India,,Lebanon ,Etheopia, locations of past greatness that are nothing today.

that is why some intelligent and concerned people worry about the Environment ,and try to take care of it so that the Environment can ensure our continuence as a specie in as confortable conditions as possible

and the ostriches with their heads in the sand wont even realise their backside is on fire ,when things go wrong and will scream the loudest when the truth finally hits home and by then it will be too late to do anythingWhy is everyone so worried about the environment?
Environmental problems have already happened. Many kinds of cancer and respirory disease are caused by pollution.

Doctors advise pregant women to limit fish intake to about 12 ounces of cooked fish per week. The problem with many fish and seafood items are the mercury levels found in these fish. The methyl mercury accumulates in fish with long life spans, hence the specific warnings about certain fish. There is also a danger with PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). This was once used in electrical equipment but is now banned. However, it can still be found in many lakes and streams, there fresh caught fish not a part of a commercial production is more at risk.
no it's happening NOW and people like you make it weirs you don't get it do you what about your children are there children are you a selfish person to take away million's of peoples life's i cant tell you what to do but i can hope you will lessen
The environmental problems aren't going to take hundreds of years to affect you, They already ARE!

Of course, if you don't care about the survival of the human race, go ahead... Your actions are already perpetuating the daily extinction of plant and animal species, but hey, so long as you're _enjoying_ yourself. :P
I am worried, because we don't own this world, we hold it in trust for our children and our grandchildren. If there is something that we can do to preserve our world and make it better, then we should to do it so that the world we pass on to them is still liveable.

I do hope you are joking, because if you are not, you are a moron.
environmental problems are here NOW...where have you been??
Most people feel the same way. It is absolutely true that it is easier to be wasteful, lazy, apathetic, and irresponsible. If your only concern is your own leisure then it is in your own interest to act that way. It is up to government to help curb such behavior through economic or legal means. To change this attitude, it takes education and sensible government regulation.
