What are some practical ways we could replace the use of fossil feuls with renewable resources?

I am researching environmental problems around the world and am looking for more information on this topic. What are some practical ways we could replace the use of fossil feuls with renewable resources? There are currently no practical alternatives to fossil fuel.

Wind and solar are extremely expensive and unreliable.

Perhaps some day something else will be developed, but for now, fossil fuel is it.What are some practical ways we could replace the use of fossil feuls with renewable resources?
Low carbon economy, use of clean energy alternative to fossil energy.

Development of clean energy sources, including:

Nuclear power - the role and potential hydropower - the current development efforts is not enough, three years without the new project!

Biogas - the solution can be an important way for rural use, but also can effectively prevent damage to trees and wood cutting line on the solar water heater - to resolve domestic hot water, can replace some fossil fuels. To conditions where an active installation.

Wind power, photovoltaic power generation - cost is still relatively high, there are some difficulties connected to the grid of cellulosic ethanol - alternative to oil (there are many technical difficulties)What are some practical ways we could replace the use of fossil feuls with renewable resources? There are numerous ways of achieving that goal. One I will mention is the use of geothermal energy to generate electricity. It is really a preferred renewable source over either wind or solar as geothermal avoids the intermittent and unreliable generation that is the glaring weakness of either wind or solar.

The thing to keep in mind about this is that patience is required. Technology has not yet advanced far enough to make geothermal an answer for tomorrow. And, even if the technology was ready for prime time, the cost of this replacement, reaching into the Trillions of dollars, is going to make it prohibitive to accomplish quickly. If however over a course of 2-4 decades you gradually replaced coal fired generation with geothermal as the coal fired plants reach the end of their serviceable life, you would at the end of that time have significantly reduced carbon emissions in the US for the purpose of generating electricity.

Mind you though that currently the Chinese have undertaken to hugely expand coal-fired electric generation in China. The dozens, if not hundreds, of coal fired plants that they are bringing online now are going to have a service life that will reach well into the last half of this century. And, these new coal fired plants that they are adding to their generation portfolio are considerably more "dirty" than the great majority of coal fired plants currently in operation in the US.

However, back to your main question, geothermal generation is an avenue that desperately needs to be advanced. What are some practical ways we could replace the use of fossil feuls with renewable resources?
Time for a reality check for all you tree huggers out there.

Although we've been coming up with renewable energy idea's and such, there is NOTHING that can replace fossil fuels. That's right NOTHING.

And if you look into history, you will find its not do gooders, or getting the message out or BS legislation or grants or even pushing ideology that got us to where we are now. IT was the change in technology. As we change technology, become more efficient or make new discoveries....that is when the "green" movement takes a leap forward.

We've been dabbling with "wind" for decades, yet even today it isn't even in the double digits for producing useable energy. Solar is better but still not but a small percentage. I think i've seen places where its just barely tipping the 15 % mark, maybe ?

So unless you can find a way to transport cows with wind, or power cities with solar, you aren't even close to replacing fossil fuels. The whole rush to find re-newable resources has resulted in every crack pot with half a brain coming up with idea's, and some of these idea's have been bad.

Like Ethanol 85. It turns to gel in cold climates, burns up small engines and fowls boat engines that were never designed to use it as a result of America demanding it be used. Good ole government interferring with people's lives......and left wing activist eco freaks pushing thier "good intensions" but stupid idea's on people too.

Not to mention that its never been terribly right to raise the cost of living for the poorest people as you use a food staple to make fuel. Commodity prices soared and we are still using this crap today. Not to mention lots of tax dollars going to pay for government subsidies (and bribes...the corn husker pay off to get Obama Care passed for instance).

People need to get a clue, refocus and stop screwing everyone's lives up with the "unintended consequences" of thier idea's. Most aren't even vetted now days in the push to be more "green".

Many aren't as "green" as they advertise to be.

If you actually do a good job researching, you'll discover all this yourself.

But if you really want a BIG way to change things. I'd say the introductoin of bioreactors to make biodiesel from algae would be a BIG step in the right direction. Bio diesels pollute alot less than petroleum diesel, its green because it takes out of the air what it puts back into it so its neutral. Algae can be grown to produce many different grades. All you would have to do is to get government to support it and make an infrastructure for it. No more wasted food, not as much added pollutants, removal of co2 through the growth of algae.

The only thing I haven't found yet is a fair comparison of the power of petrodiesel vs the power of biodiesel...........if there is a difference. What are some practical ways we could replace the use of fossil feuls with renewable resources?Short-term, the best return on investment comes from efficiency. Most electrical utility experts feel that there's at least 30% improvement possible with present technology - with cost savings to match. A lot of these savings, such as upgrading home insulation, require significant investment. This could be encouraged by shifting loan guarantees from large powerplant projects to homeowners.
There is a car called the Honda Clarity that runs of of hydrogen and a water mist comes out of the exaust pipe!
It is practical and runs like a regular car, and hydrogen is a renewable resource so hydrogen is probably going to replace fossil fuelsWhat are some practical ways we could replace the use of fossil feuls with renewable resources?
And, adding on to one of the posts above, Mercedes is opening a hydrogen fuel cell plant right around where I live. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-co鈥?/a>
Waste to energy (landfill gas utilization, plasma arc gasification, thermal depolymerization)

Solar power

Wind power (including offshore wind farms)

Geothermal energy

Hydroelectricity

Tidal powerWhat are some practical ways we could replace the use of fossil feuls with renewable resources?
We need to think local and stop using fossil fuels for unnecessary transport.
There are many solutions:

-Bio-fuels

-Energy from waste

-Wind energy

-solar panels

-hydroelectricity
