"Hoffman argues that business has an obligation to protect the environment beyond what the law requires and that it must creatively find ways to become part of the solution to our environmental problems."
I am supposed to disagree and form a convincing argument as to why. I am very pro-environment, and this is a very hard topic for me to dissent on. =[How would you rebut this argument concerning business and the environment? If it were that simplified why not just abolish government and let a self sustaining society run itself. How would you rebut this argument concerning business and the environment?"The business of business is business"
The managers have a duty to the shareholders to maximize profit, and may be sued or terminated (fired) if they fail in that duty. The economy is driven by desperate competition with other businesses (supposedly) and anything which blunts the edge a particular firm has could mean instant failure.
(Government throws all the corporations into a ring and the market sorts out the "winners")How would you rebut this argument concerning business and the environment?if Hoffman's company goes bankrupt because he spent to much money protecting the environment, then how can he protect it? There is a limit as to how far you can overspend money protecting the environment.
